What is in the jar, and what is not

Hand-sorted red tips only

Mongra is the stigma tip alone. No yellow style, which is what cheaper grades use to make up weight.

One farm, no middlemen

Our own plots in Pampore. It goes from the field to your door without passing through a trader or a repacker.

No additives, no preservatives

No dye, no sugar syrup coating, no colouring agent, nothing added to make up weight. Test it yourself when it arrives — we tell you how below.

Do not take our word for it

Put a few threads in cold water. Real saffron gives up its colour slowly — after ten minutes the water is golden and the threads are still red. Dyed saffron turns the water red or orange in seconds. And real saffron tastes bitter, never sweet.

5g Mongra Saffron
I specifically looked for Mongra saffron after learning it's the highest grade, only the stigma, no yellow thread attached. Most sellers claim to sell Mongra but when you compare them side-by-side you can tell. Saffron Town's Mongra is the real thing. Incredibly potent,I use half the amount I used to. If you want the best Kashmiri saffron available online, this is it.

5g Mongra Saffron
I've been buying saffron for 20 years and always worried about getting fake kesar. With Saffron Town I finally found pure Kashmiri saffron I can trust, the colour it gives to rice is incomparable. You can tell immediately this is original Kashmiri saffron and not something mixed with turmeric or dye. Will never buy from anywhere else.

10g Mongra Saffron
I bought a saffron gift box for my mother-in-law from Saffron Town. She's very fussy about kesar and said this is the best she's had in years. Pure kashmiri saffron, properly packed, and the lab report sealed the deal. She's been making kesar milk every morning and her joint pain has reduced. Best gift I've ever given her.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is saffron safe during pregnancy?
We can't answer that for you, and we won't pretend to. We sell saffron as a food, not a medicine, and we make no claim about its effect on a mother or a baby. Kesar milk is a long-standing tradition in Indian homes, but tradition is cultural, not clinical. Please ask your doctor before adding anything to your diet during pregnancy — including this.
How do I know this isn't adulterated?
You don't have to take our word for it. Drop a few threads in cold water: real saffron releases colour slowly and the water turns golden-yellow over 10–15 minutes while the threads stay red. Dyed saffron floods the water red or orange within seconds. Real saffron also tastes bitter, never sweet — a sweet taste means it has been coated in sugar syrup to add weight. Run those tests the day your order arrives.
What is actually in cheap saffron?
The common substitutes are dyed corn silk and safflower petals, which look similar but have no flare at the tip. Colour is often added with dyes, and weight with sugar syrup or honey. Genuine Mongra cannot be cheap: one flower yields three stigmas, and it takes roughly 150 flowers to make a single gram.
How long does a 2g pack last?
A few threads is a normal serving for a glass of milk. At one glass a day, a 2g pack typically lasts several weeks. If you are planning a daily routine over months, the larger packs work out considerably cheaper per gram.
Which harvest will I receive?
The current one. Saffron is picked once a year over about three weeks in Pampore, and we sell that crop until it runs out and then we stop — we do not buy in from traders to fill the gap. The harvest year is printed on the product page and on your pack.
How quickly will it arrive?
Dispatched from Pampore within 1–2 working days. Metros and major cities typically receive it 3–5 working days after dispatch, elsewhere in India 5–8 working days. Delivery is free and you get a tracking link by email and SMS.
What if I am not happy with it?
Tell us and we will refund you. If the saffron is not what you expected — colour, aroma, anything — contact us and we will make it right. We would rather refund one order than have you doubt what you are cooking with.

Please talk to your doctor
